The International Institute for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) undertakes education, research and project services in earth observation and spatial information collection, analysis and management.

The department of Earth Observation Science (EOS) is a multi-disciplinary scientific team, specializing to data collection and data analysis in earth observation, covering issues of mathematics, statistics, physics and computer science as far as these are relevant for earth observation.

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR m/f
Laser scanning

Main tasks
You initiate, carry out and participate in education, research and consulting activities on airborne and terrestrial laser scanning. Educational and consulting tasks will also include information extraction with photogrammetry and mapping from spaceborne sensors. Research will focus on extraction of topographic information from point clouds as well as quality analysis of the extracted information. You are able to discuss and find solutions for information acquisition problems emerging within ITC¡¯s research projects. You will teach, assist and supervise Master and MSc students, contribute to the development of educational modules and new educational products (such as distance learning packages) at various levels of education and actively participate in joined educational programmes with ITC¡¯s partner institutes abroad. You may share responsibility in the management of the department. You participate actively in national and international professional societies.

Requirements
You possess a PhD in the field of photogrammetry, remote sensing, geodesy, or computer science with relevance to spatial information acquisition problems. Experience with processing point clouds and good knowledge of laser scanning sensor technology is a prerequisite. You have demonstrated scientific creativity combined with a publishing record of acknowledged quality and a strong interest in developing cost effective solutions relevant to the large variety of problems in developing countries. You have didactical skills and experience in teaching, including lecturing and course development, and in international consulting and advising co-operation. Preferably, you have working experience in developing countries. You are willing to undertake international travel.

Our offer
We offer an inspiring and challenging international environment. The successful candidate will be employed for a period of three years. Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement (CAO) of the Dutch Universities. Gross monthly salary depends on experience and qualifications, and ranges from € 2279.- to € 4190.- exclusive of allowances in accordance with the job profile Assistant Professor level 2 (UD2), under the University System for Job Classification (UJC).
