Qing Zhu

Dr. Zhu is a full professor in geo-infromatics (photogrammetry & remote sensing/GIS) . He obtained a Msc in photogrammetry and remote sensing in 1989 from the Southwestern Jiaotong University (China) and his PhD from the Northern Jiaotong University (China) for thesis "Fractal-based Digital Terrain Analysis and Simulation" in 1995. Since 1995, he had worked at the Wuhan Technical University of Surveying and Mapping (China) as a postdoctor, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University as a visiting research scinentist, and the Chinese University of Hong Kong as a Croucher visiting scholar. Since 1997, professor Zhu has been working at the state key lab of information engineering in surveying mapping and remote sensing (Wuhan University), and now is the director of the Virtual Reality Lab of Wuhan University, the Co-chair of ISPRS WG VI/5. His main research themes are digital photogrammetry, multidimensional GIS and virtual geographic environments.

In 2000, Prof. Zhu coauthored the book of 《Digital Elevation Model》 (in Chinese) with Dr. Zhilin Li from the HongKong Polytechnic University, which was published by the Wuhan University Press in 2000, and reprinted in 2001. In 2002, this book won the second class award of the Excellent University Teaching Materials by the Ministry of Education of P.R.China. In 2004, The book 《Digital Terrain Modelling: Principles and Methodology》, coauthored with Prof. LI Zhilin and Prof. GOLD Chris, was published by CRC Press, this is also the only up-to-date reference to provide comprehensive coverage of the field. The book 《CyberCity GIS: 3D city models for virtual city environment》 (in Chinese), coauthored with Prof. LIN Hui from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, was published by Wuhan University Press in 2004. A book chapter "Virtual Geographic Environments", coauthored with Prof. LIN Hui, was included in book 《Large-Scale 3D Data Integration: Challenges and Opportunities》edited by Sisi Zlatanova and David Prosperi, CRC Press (Taylor & Francis Group) in 2005.
